Pakistan's new batting sensation Mohammad Haris has been the talk of the town after playing two blistering cameos in the T20 World Cup.

The 21-year-old scored 11-ball 28 against South Africa and 16-ball 31 against Bangladesh. The youngster has come out a breath of fresh air at the top with Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan struggling at the top. He has looked to attack the bowlers from ball one and batted aggressively.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo outside his hotel before leaving for Sydney, Haris highlighted his mantra of batting, "My game is such that I take the attack to every bowler. I didn't look at the bowler, whether it was Rabada, Nortje, or whoever else. I just backed myself and my strengths."

Haris received immense criticism after he was dismissed twice by the West Indies while playing ugly shots in the ODI series earlier in June. He was also not part of the main squad and appeared in just one of the 18 T20Is Pakistan played before the mega-event.

"Everyone has their role in the team, and they have to fulfill that," he says. "I'll be happy to play anywhere. I have confidence in my shots when I play through the air that I'll be able to clear the rope. It's great when you perform well and help the team out. Now it's about taking the momentum through. We have a lot of confidence. We came in winning the tri-series, which gives us confidence, too." said Haris.

On the other hand, batting mentor Matthew Hayden was impressed with Haris. "Not even in the squad, yet performing like he should have been there from the start. Great story, compelling story of any World Cup."

"I watched him closely over the last month, and he was the one individual that came into every net session and faced all of our quicks. That was like McGrath, Warne, Lee, and Gillespie. If you could face those bowlers and were playing well, then you knew you had a great chance of making runs in the actual game. Haris said.

"It's no surprise to see Harry come in and play so beautifully. He's got an excellent technique on our fast, bouncy wickets and a freshness. One of the things as an outsider coming into this tournament is that the entire cricketing community, with the amount of program, is tired to some degree. To have a young fresh face with nothing to lose, to play with great freedom has been a wonderful expression for him personally but also for Team Pakistan," he maintained.

Haris has faced pacers majorly and yet to be tested against spinners. He said he would show his game against the spinners and have shots to counter. "It's not that I'm weak against spin. I haven't played against spin much, but I have shots that give me options against spin, too."
