Pakistan’s legendary former pacer Shoaib Akhtar, while talking at a show on PTV Sports, stated that one of the openers from the Men in Green’s side could be dropped because of the meteoric rise of wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan.

The 45-year-old praised the talent possessed by Rizwan while stating that the wicketkeeper-batsman had made full use of his opportunities to cement his place in the side.

“Rizwan is a very smart cricketer. He performed in international cricket and then in franchise cricket, he also put his foot down. The same thing was needed from Sarfaraz but he learned it after 3 years. How well did he play, is there any doubt about his talent. He played amazing shots, running between the wickets is good, he is fit as well and also has an understanding of the game,” said Akhtar.

“Rizwan made full use of the opportunity to bat in the top order and he has made his place in the team. He has made a point that I am ready as an opener and now you have to drop one of the other openers,” he added.

Akhtar however pointed out that the current chief selector Mohammad Wasim will have to make some tough decisions going forward.

“Wasim will carefully manage the decisions however, it will not be easy to pick some players and drop some. He wants to inject three to four new players but then who will he drop as there is Hafeez and Shoaib Malik as well,” he said.
