One Pakistan player unlikely to travel with squad to Queenstown on Tuesday

Five out of the six members of the Pakistan touring squad, who initially tested positive for Covid-19, when the team landed in New Zealand, are expected to travel to Queenstown with the rest of the squad on Tuesday.

However, one player who tested positive during the third round of testing will not be able to make the journey.

While talking to Express News correspondent, Pakistan team’s media manager Ibrahim Badees said: “According to Covid-19 protocols in New Zealand, all positive cases have to spend 10 days in isolation. After which they are only allowed to travel, if the medical authorities are satisfied that they do not have any symptoms of Covid-19.”

The aforementioned five cricketers will complete their 10-day quarantine on Monday, while the sixth player still has two days left.

It must be noted that total of 10 Pakistan players have so far tested positive for Covid-19 since arriving in New Zealand. Four of these 10 cases were subsequently found to be historical, meaning they were not infectious. As a result, these four cricketers were allowed to stay on the same floor as the rest of the 44 members of the squad, who have tested negative in four tests till now. These 44 members will undergo their final round of testing on Sunday.

All Pakistan players tested negative before leaving Lahore for the five-match tour, which is scheduled to begin with a Twenty20 international in Auckland on December 18.
