Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez announced his retirement from international cricket on Monday morning; something that not many people were prepared for.

After having an illustrious career for Pakistan, Hafeez has finally decided to hang up his boots after 18 years of service. The all-rounder represented Pakistan in 55 Test matches, 218 ODIs, and 119 T20s; he amassed 12,780 runs across all formats and took 253 wickets.

“Today I say goodbye to international cricket with pride and satisfaction. In fact, I have earned and accomplished more than I had initially envisaged and for that, I am thankful to all my fellow cricketers, captains, support staff, and the Pakistan Cricket Board who helped me out during my career," said Hafeez during a press conference.

Following his announcement, Hafeez's name became a trending topic and everyone had something to add when it came to praising his successful and long-lasting career.

Hafeez, you have been a flag-bearer for Pakistan Cricket over the years you have worn your country's shirt. Pride in the badge, pride in your own performance and maintaining the highest codes of honour in the game. Your presence will be missed by @TheRealPCB #Hafeez https://t.co/1BP29trfge

Still remember that Mohammad Hafeez had come to Customs Cricket Academy in Karachi to practice for National T20 Cup with his team Faisalabad Wolves in 2006 when he was out of Pakistan team & asked us the kids who were trainees there to pray for him. Time flies so fast, Professor!

My two favourite Mohammad Hafeez international batting performances:
Sharjah Test vs Eng - 151 (ball turning/reversing miles)
CT final - An incredible cameo to ensure a total well past the 300-mark
And of course the bowling esp to lefties made him such a QUALITY all-round pkg pic.twitter.com/uTOknjvzNY
