Pakistan to make Asia Cup final if remaining Super 4 games are washed out

The ongoing Asia Cup 2023's Super 4 matches are shrouded in uncertainty due to the inclement weather in Colombo, where all the remaining fixtures are slated to take place.

In their Super 4 campaign opener, Pakistan secured a commanding seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh on Wednesday.

Pakistan along, with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh today departed for Colombo. However, if the weather continues to play spoilsport and the remaining Super 4 matches get washed out, Pakistan will automatically secure a spot in the final with four points to their name.

In the event of multiple washouts, Sri Lanka and India would find themselves in a peculiar situation, both tied with three points each and sporting an identical Net Run Rate. To resolve this deadlock, a coin toss will be employed as the tiebreaker, determining which of these two teams will earn the opportunity to vie for the championship in the final.

Bangladesh, having already faced defeat in one of their Super Four encounters, would be left with just two points in the case of further washouts, effectively eliminating them from contention for the final.

Adding to the intrigue, if the final match scheduled for September 17 also succumbs to adverse weather conditions and is washed out, the coveted trophy will be shared between the two teams.
