The Pakistan team is entering the series in good form, winning five of their six games in the ICC Women's Championship. They achieved a 2-1 victory over Sri Lanka in June last year and later swept Ireland 3-0 in November.
One of the standout performers for Pakistan in these matches was the opening batter, Sidra Ameen. Ameen is currently at the top of the ICC Women's Championship batting charts with 495 runs in six games, 155 runs ahead of the second-place player, Harmanpreet Kaur. Sidra's runs have come at an average of 123.75 and a strike rate of 88.55, highlighting her strong attacking style of play.
Sidra is determined to continue her momentum in 2023 and is focusing on adapting to the foreign conditions of Australia. She said, "I am here in Australia for the first time, the conditions here are different to Pakistan as the ball rises a bit, and I am trying to acclimatize as quickly as possible."
Sidra acknowledged her role as an opener and the importance of giving a good start to the innings. She said, "As an opener, it is a challenging job to face two new balls in ODI cricket; you have to see off the new ball and at the same time score runs and give a good start to the innings. Muneeba and I will look to give a good start to the innings, so the batters coming after us should have the momentum to take it forward."
Sidra acknowledged the significance of facing a top-tier team like Australia in terms of the high level of cricket on display and the opportunity to earn Pakistan's first-ever win against the hosts. She said, "Everyone knows that Australia is a great side; playing against them is a good omen. It will help us to learn a lot."
