Papua New Guinea (PNG) has announced its squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, with Assad Vala leading the Barramundis once again. Vala, who also captained the team in the 2021 edition, will be supported by vice-captain CJ Amini in the Caribbean showdown.

The squad features familiar faces from their successful 2021 campaign, including 10 players who were part of the previous tournament. Excitingly, Jack Gardner, who was a reserve member in 2021, has made it into the 15-player squad this time.

After securing their spot via the East Asia-Pacific regional final in July 2023, where they remained unbeaten, PNG is more prepared than ever. Vala expressed confidence in the team's readiness, especially after navigating challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic during the 2021 tournament.

New head coach Tatenda Taibu, a former Zimbabwean cricketer, has shown faith in the squad that earned qualification. With Nathan Reardon joining as an assistant coach, PNG is set to bring a wealth of experience to their campaign.

Key players like Chad Soper, who impressed on recent tours to Malaysia and Oman, add depth to the team. Young talent John Kariko, who has experience in West Indies conditions from the U19 World Cup in 2022, brings enthusiasm and skill to the spin department.

With a squad boasting eight all-rounders and a mix of right and left-arm bowling options, PNG is geared up for their first match against hosts West Indies on June 2.

Matches against Uganda, Afghanistan, and New Zealand will follow, promising an exciting journey for the Barramundis in their quest for glory at the T20 World Cup.
