Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi is in contention to replace Roman Abrahmovic as Chelsea owner, a top-tier English football team.

Chelsea's current owner is a Russian billionaire was forced into making the decision as Russia's conflict with Ukraine broke out last week.

This development was reported by a Spanish sports website Soy Madridista who took it to social media to announce Javed Afridi as an interested candidate.

Pues parece que el pakistaní @JAfridi10 es el primer colocado para intentar comprar el Chelsea a Abramovichhttps://t.co/n4NmTXYpa2

Earlier this week, in order to diffuse the situation, Abramovic handed over the "stewardship and care" of the club. However, this decision was seen as a hollow attempt.

With increasing pressure, Abramovic has now been forced to sell Chelsea and Javed Afridi remains interested in taking over the throne.

Khaleej Times reported a meeting between Javed Afridi and sports and legal agency in the United Kingdom has already taken place.

"Afridi’s team held a meeting this afternoon (Wednesday) with a sports and legal agency in the UK. There’s a bunch of investors who are interested in Chelsea Football Club," the source said.

"They believe it’s the right time and opportunity to invest in football. And someone from Asia should come and invest. They are in negotiation with them right now."

Javed Afridi along with his investors are said to be challenged by Swiss billionaire Hansjoerg Wyss who has also expressed his serious intentions to become Roman's successor.

Chelsea Football Club is a symbol of modern transformation; the club relied on money from investors and owners to offset the foothold of football giants such as Manchester United and Liverpool.

After Roman's arrival in 2003, Chelsea have won 5 Premier League titles, 5 FA Cups, and 2 Champions League titles.
