The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises will suffer massive losses, due to lack of insurance cover, if the remaining matches of season six are not held.

According to PCB’s Director Media Samiul Hassan Burney, PSL’s insurance policy does not cover pandemics.

“Covid-19 pandemic has not finished, yet. It is affecting sports events around the world which is why the insurance company was not willing to provide cover for it,” said Burney. “Although, we have general insurance for players participating in PSL 6.”

“The event is only postponed for now and we are hopeful that the remaining matches will take place in the near future,” he added.

It must be noted that one of tennis’ major grand slam tournaments, Wimbledon, received $142 million from the insurance company as it had a clause covering pandemics in its contract. This allowed the event organisers to pay the players despite the tournament not taking place.

PSL 6 was postponed after multiple Covid-19 cases, involving players and support staff, were reported on March 4.
