Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan has been officially reprimanded by the ICC for showing dissent towards a teammate during his team's thrilling victory over Bangladesh in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

This win marked a historic achievement for Afghanistan, securing their first-ever spot in the semi-finals of the tournament.

The incident leading to Rashid's sanction occurred during the final over of the first innings. After playing a shot to the off-side, Rashid attempted to take a second run due to a fielding error but was sent back by his batting partner. Midway down the pitch, Rashid stopped, threw his bat to the ground in frustration, and then comfortably returned to his crease, indicating that there was indeed enough time for the second run.

A visibly subdued Karim Janat retrieved Rashid's bat and handed it back to him. He then knocked a single to give Rashid the strike for the final two balls of the over. Rashid made the most of it, hitting the last ball for six and ending his innings unbeaten on 19 off 10 balls.

Afghanistan is set to face South Africa in the first semi-final at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad, on Thursday.
