The upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, scheduled to be held in Islamabad on October 15 and 16, could serve as a pivotal moment for the potential visit of the Indian cricket team to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy. High-level representatives and heads of state from several countries will attend the summit, including Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar.

Sources suggest that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is expected to meet Jaishankar during the summit to discuss matters related to cricket diplomacy. This proposed meeting could provide an opportunity to address the concerns and logistical requirements for India's participation in the ICC Champions Trophy, which Pakistan is set to host from February 19 to March 9 next year.

During the meeting, Naqvi is expected to brief the Indian foreign minister on the security arrangements, protocols, and other key details that would be extended to the Indian team during their stay in Pakistan. Additionally, Naqvi will likely inform Jaishankar about Pakistan’s preparations for the tournament and the visits by ICC delegations to oversee the arrangements.

As part of the discussions, Naqvi is also expected to extend a formal invitation to Jaishankar to attend the Champions Trophy matches in Pakistan.

The participation of the Indian team in the Champions Trophy remains uncertain, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has linked their participation to obtaining government approval. However, last year, Pakistan sent its cricket team to India to compete in the ICC World Cup, adhering to ICC regulations that require teams to participate in events hosted by member countries.
