Former Indian cricketer, Virender Sehwag, expressed his desire for Afghanistan to defeat Pakistan in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 that is about to commence in just three days.

In a recent interview with Cricbuzz, Sehwag highlighted India's remarkable record against the Men in Green in the ODI World Cup, emphasizing the hope that this record would remain intact.

The 44-year-old added that the match between India and Pakistan in Ahmedabad would witness a significant turnout of approximately 100,000 people, creating a pressure-packed environment for both teams.

"India's record against Pakistan is quite remarkable, especially in the ODI World Cup. Until now, we haven't lost a single match against them, and I really hope this record continues. Pakistan's team is quite strong, but we have outperformed them in the Asia Cup. I would love for this record to remain intact, especially when the team steps onto the field in Ahmedabad to play against Pakistan. I expect that 100,000 people will come to the ground to watch the match, and that in itself will create pressure," he said.

Sehwag wished for a thrilling, neck-and-neck battle in the ICC World Cup 2023, anticipating an unexpected contender to shake up the tournament.

He expressed the desire for something extraordinary, hoping to see surprises that would astonish cricket enthusiasts.

"A neck-and-neck battle and an unexpected contender—I wish for something like this to happen this time, leaving India astonished. There should be something that shakes up the expectations, but I don't want India to face any upset. If there has to be an upset, it should be like Afghanistan defeating Pakistan, or New Zealand defeating Australia, or South Africa defeating England. That's when it will be exciting to watch this World Cup," he concluded.

The curtain-raiser will feature England against New Zealand in Ahmedabad on October 5 while Pakistan will play against Netherlands in Hyderabad on October 6.
