The Pakistan selectors arrived at Kakul on Saturday with the objective of convincing Babar Azam to assume the captaincy for T20Is, following a late-night discussion between Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the selectors on Friday at PCB headquarters.

Reports have been circulating for several days regarding Shaheen Shah Afridi's removal from the T20I captaincy, yet surprisingly, no official from the PCB or selector had reached out to Shaheen regarding this matter. However, following media attention, this communication lapse has now been rectified.

According to sources, a selector informed Shaheen of the possibility of a change in captaincy, without providing a specific reason when Shaheen inquired. Instead, it was insinuated that a batsman might be better suited for the role of captaincy than a bowler. Sources added that Shaheen is unhappy with the situation, feeling unfairly targeted without justification. He perceives losing the captaincy after just one series as unjust.

Meanwhile, Babar's list of demands for accepting the T20I captaincy remain unchanged, leading to delays in reaching a final decision. Babar values his father's counsel, and his stance on the issue holds significance.

Certain close associates have advised Babar against accepting the T20I captaincy until his demands are met, wary that poor results in the T20 World Cup could result in the captaincy being revoked. Therefore, Babar is inclined towards a more long-term commitment as captain. He has communicated to the Pakistan Cricket Board his wish to lead across all formats if he were to consider captaining the T20I team. His demands have been communicated to the authorities, and a decision is anticipated soon.
