Shan Masood scored 60 runs in the second innings before he was dismissed by Pat Cummins as Pakistan were set 317-run target by Australia for a victory in the ongoing Melbourne Test.

Earlier in the match, Shan had showcased his batting prowess by scoring 54 runs in the first innings. Notably, his performance in both innings marked a significant achievement, making him the first Pakistan captain since Imran Khan in 1983 to achieve the feat of scoring a half-century in both innings of a Test match in Australia.

The historical significance of Shan Masood's accomplishment is underscored by the rare instances of Pakistani captains achieving scores of 50 or more in both innings of a Test match on Australian soil. Prior to Shan Masood's achievement in 2023, the notable instances were recorded by Hanif Mohammad in 1964, when he scored 104 and 93, and by the legendary Imran Khan in 1983, with scores of 83 and an unbeaten 72.

Furthermore, Shan Masood's feat extended beyond the realm of Pakistan's cricket history, as he became the first visiting batter to secure two fifties in a Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) since Virat Kohli accomplished the same in 2014.
