Former Pakistan fast-bowler Shoaib Akhtar claimed that Pakistan have a score to settle against New Zealand at the T20 World Cup 2021.

New Zealand abandoned their tour to Pakistan earlier last month, which cause a lot of outrage and Akhtar remained at the forefront of the entire debacle.

Speaking to Salaam Cricket 2021, Akhtar said that Pakistan will be eyeing a win against New Zealand more so than against India.

"Our real anger is with New Zealand. We will take it out on them, we have no issues with you [India]," said Shoaib.

The unilateral decision to leave minutes before the toss for the first game between Pakistan and New Zealand put a huge dent in not only the cricketing but also the overall Pakistan-NZ relations as well.

Following their decision, England also followed suit and cancelled their tour altogether as well. This ripple effect initiated by New Zealand caused Pakistan dearly. It ruined Pakistan's image on the international stage once again, and mainly because the "security threats" were likely to be bogus anyway.

Earlier this month, New Zealand coach Gary Stead claimed there is no tension or animosity from their side while discussing the tie between the two giants.

"Obviously, what happened in Pakistan was sad for Pakistan cricket, their players, and also our players, who missed out on that opportunity as well," he said. "We can't change what has happened there. All we can do is prepare for the tournament and we face Pakistan first up."

Shoaib Akhtar further added that, although, India are the favorites but he can sense a Pakistan victory nonetheless.

"There is a lot of pressure but it’s less on Pakistan because first of all, the entire stadium is blue. That is yours. Your fans will be there, your broadcasters, we have no problems if we lose this," Akhtar remarked.

"On a serious note, I feel there is a lot at stake for India. If Pakistan bat first and make more than 180 runs then trust me, the pressure gets to the biggest of players. If India can handle that pressure better than Pakistan, that's fine, but what if Pakistan surprises you," concluded the 46-year-old.
