Former cricketer, Shoaib Malik, strongly advocated for Saud Shakeel's inclusion in Pakistan's playing XI for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023, scheduled in India.

In a recent media conference, Malik underscored the significance of Shakeel's presence in the team, emphasizing his impeccable batting technique.

"I always thought Saud Shakeel should be mandatory in the Pakistan Cricket Team. A batter with a strong technique like Saud plays an important role after Babar Azam and M Rizwan," he said.

Furthermore, the former all-rounder stressed the importance of rallying behind skipper Babar Azam, particularly during the upcoming mega event.

He urged the media and the nation to provide unwavering support to Babar in his leadership role during the World Cup.

"Babar Azam has been doing captaincy of Pakistan, and this is the time to support him. The media also has to play an important role in supporting Babar in the World Cup. I'm very much hopeful for the good performance of the Pakistan Cricket Team and the captaincy of Babar in the World Cup," he said.

In addition, he shed light on the unfortunate absence of Naseem Shah from the World Cup squad due to a shoulder injury he suffered during the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023.

The 41-year-old acknowledged the strength of the trio comprising Naseem, Shaheen Shah, and Haris Rauf and lamented Naseem's injury.

"Naseem, Shaheen [Shah] and Haris [Rauf] became a strong trio. Unfortunately, Naseem got injured, but the PCB Selection Committee should have given occasional opportunities to other bowlers as well previously," he concluded.
