Simon Doull brutally slams Sarfaraz Ahmed’s captaincy

Former New Zealand cricketer, Simon Doull, didn’t mince his words while criticizing Quetta Gladiators captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed, on Monday in HBL PSL 8.

While commentating during Karachi Kings’ innings, as Imad Wasim kept hitting boundaries at will, Doull wasn’t impressed with the field set by Gladiators’ captain.

“Sarfaraz is standing there and doing nothing,” commented Doull.

“He has been struggling with his batting form. His lack of form is being reflected on his captaincy. He has struggled with upping his strike rate. So understandably, his confidence is down in the field as well,” he added.

Sarfaraz was also seen shouting at Umar Akmal for not moving quick enough to stop a run.

Interestingly, Akmal replaced Sarfaraz as wicketkeeper in the 16^th over, as the Gladiators skipper went off the field with an injured finger.

Sarfaraz tried to stop a 142 kph delivery from Naseem Shah, but injured his finger in the process, as even the glove couldn’t absorb the shock from the thunderbolt delivery.

Despite injury, Sarfaraz came onto bat when Gladiators were five down, but struggled to get going. Doull wasn’t done with his criticism as well.

“Guptill has been playing an anchor role so far, Sarfaraz has been worse. It is not the first time in this tournament that Sarfaraz is struggling with his strike rate,” Doull said.

“Might be a time for a strategic retirement for Sarfaraz,” he added.

Guptill, who was 41 from 40 balls at that point, quickly upped the ante and played a match-winning unbeaten 86-run knock to take Quetta over the line.

Sarfaraz was run out for 29 from 25 balls, as he sacrificed his wicket for Guptill.
