Bangladesh's cricket team has called up Towhid Hridoy for his maiden Test appearance, stepping in for the injured Mushfiqur Rahim in the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka. The series is scheduled to begin on Friday, March 22nd in Sylhet, Bangladesh.

Mushfiqur Rahim, a key figure in Bangladesh's batting lineup, was sidelined from the series due to a thumb injury sustained during the third and final one-day international in Chittagong earlier this week.

Towhid Hridoy, known for his prowess in limited-overs cricket with 30 ODIs and 14 Twenty20 internationals under his belt, is now poised to make his Test debut.

The 2023 Under-19 World Cup winner boasts an impressive first-class record, averaging 48.05 after featuring in 14 matches.

This series follows Bangladesh's recent success against Sri Lanka in the ODI format, where they clinched a 2-1 victory. However, Sri Lanka managed to turn the tables in the preceding three-match T20I series, securing a 2-1 victory.

The second Test, which is also part of the 2023–25 ICC World Test Championship cycle, will begin in Chittagong on March 30.
