Pakistan’s middle-order batsman Fawad Alam is playing his first Test in his hometown, Karachi, against South Africa.

Despite being out of the national side in recent years, Fawad was always a prolific run-scorer in domestic cricket and Karachi is one of his favourite hunting grounds.

He has a batting average of 71.60 in first-class cricket at the National Stadium in Karachi, which includes 10 centuries.

In the ongoing Test match, he came to bat when his team was in a precarious situation at 27/4. Although the odds were stacked against Pakistan, Fawad played a gritty knock, scoring an unbeaten century, and helped Pakistan get past South Africa’s first-innings total of 220.

Here is how Twitter reacted:

Every time fawad alam scores it feels like vindication. For all those years he was kept out of the side-for his “weird stance” and the heaps of centuries he made in domestic cricket that went unnoticed- proof that Fawad always deserved to be here! 👏🏻👏🏻 #PAKvsSA

A year ago, Fawad Alam was hosting short TV interviews with PSL players on behalf of a brand we've already forgotten about because he wasn't picked for anything. Not Test. Not ODI. Not PSL.

Now he's a national hero and I couldn't be prouder of my mate. Never give up#PakvSA

Often termed as negative, cynical? May I question the system, the whimsicality, nepotism & bias in lieu of Fawad Alam. Who is answerable for wasting his ten years? Who shall recompense? I don’t know about others I bow in shame @iRashidLatif68
