The USA triumphed over Canada by seven wickets in the opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 1 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

Chasing a target of 195, the USA found themselves at a precarious 42/2, casting doubts over their chances of winning their inaugural T20 World Cup game, especially on home turf. However, Aaron Jones delivered a stunning performance, remaining unbeaten with 94 runs, which guided the USA to a remarkable victory.

In the post-match presentation, USA captain Monank Patel issued a bold statement to cricket powerhouses India and Pakistan, asserting that their team would continue to play an aggressive brand of cricket.

"We played fearless cricket and will continue to do so in the upcoming matches. Whether it is India or Pakistan, our brand of cricket will not change," Patel declared.

Patel also expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, particularly praising Jones for his extraordinary innings.

"We batted really well. Canada were ahead of us when we lost two wickets in our chase but Jones was unbelievable. We always knew he was talented but he took it to another level in today’s game," he said.

Additionally, Patel called on fans to keep supporting the team, noting the encouraging presence of spectators at the stadium. "It was good to see the fans coming to the stadium to support us. I hope they return in large numbers in our other matches," he added.

The USA is placed in Group A alongside Canada, Pakistan, Ireland, and India. Their next match is scheduled against Pakistan on June 6 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
