Chasing a target of 241, India was bowled out for 208 in 42.2 overs
Sri Lanka beat India by 32 runs in the second ODI of their three-match series at Colombo's R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing a target of 241, India was bowled out for 208 in 42.2 overs, with Jeffrey Vandersay taking an impressive 6/33 in his 10-over spell.
India got off to a solid start with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill putting on 97 runs for the first wicket before Vandersay dismissed Rohit for 64.
Gill soon followed, dismissed for 35, with Vandersay claiming his second wicket. Shivam Dube, who was promoted up the order, was dismissed without scoring in the same over.
Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul also fell quickly, causing India’s score to tumble from 97/0 to 147/6 in under 10 overs, all thanks to Vandersay.
Axar Patel and Washington Sundar then tried to stabilize the innings, adding 38 runs for the seventh wicket.
However, Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka dismissed both batters within a span of five runs, leaving India seven down for under 200. Asalanka then removed Mohammed Siraj to take India’s ninth wicket at 201, and a run-out sealed the victory for Sri Lanka with India at 208.
Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat, but their decision initially backfired as Mohammed Siraj dismissed Pathum Nissanka on the first ball.
Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis then put on 74 runs for the second wicket before Sundar removed both in quick succession.
Dunith Wellalage and Kamindu Mendis then added 72 runs for the eighth wicket, pushing Sri Lanka past 200 before Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Wellalage in the 47th over. A couple of run-outs in the final over saw Sri Lanka finish at 240/9 in their 50 overs.
For India, Sundar finished with 3/30, and Kuldeep took 2/33, while Siraj and Axar Patel each claimed one wicket.
