Peshawar captain is upbeat ahead of grand finale against Multan
Peshawar Zalmi’s captain Wahab Riaz has heaped praise on Hazratullah Zazai, who has been exceptional form during the ongoing HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) season six.
Speaking to Cricket Pakistan in an exclusive interview, ahead of Thursday’s final against Multan Sultans, Riaz highlighted the importance of Zazai winning the powerplay for his side.
“Zazai has been exceptional so far. Especially, yesterday [against Islamabad United] he played in a very responsible manner and took his time out there in the middle. He took us close to finishing line, which was great to see,” said Riaz. “It is very important to win powerplays in T20 cricket and Zazai has done that very successfully for us.”
“There were many ups and downs in our journey but we are happy to be in the final. The good thing was that we peaked at the right time. We have qualified for the playoffs in all six seasons while we have also played four finals. I think consistency is the key in a tournament and we have done really well in this regard,” he added.
He also made a tongue-in-cheek comment about Sultans’ captain Mohammad Rizwan, who is the second highest run-scorer in the event.
“We will keep things simple and do nothing out of the box. We will get him [Rizwan] out caught behind,” he chuckled.
Riaz, who is also the second highest wicket-taker in the event, also hoped that his performance will impress the national selectors.
“I hope selectors are watching and even if they aren’t, I hope someone gives them this information. Whether the selectors play me or not, I will continue to perform and give my best on the field as this is my duty as a professional,” he said.
He also lauded the presence of veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik in the side.
“Shoaib Malik has a great attitude towards the game. His energy and motivation helps us on the field and especially me as a captain. Also, having a player like him in the batting order is a blessing in disguise,” he concluded.
