Sri Lanka's cricket team faced a setback as all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been suspended from the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh due to dissent. This decision came just a day after Hasaranga's announcement of taking back his Test retirement.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) took action against Hasaranga after he was found guilty of "showing dissent at an umpire's decision" during the third one-day international against Bangladesh. The incident occurred in the 37th over of the match, which Bangladesh eventually won by four wickets, clinching the three-match series 2-1.

Hasaranga's actions during the game, including snatching his cap from an umpire and ridiculing the match official, led to a 50 percent match fine and three demerit points, pushing his total demerit points to eight within a 24-month period, resulting in his suspension from the Test series.

This is not the first time Hasaranga has faced disciplinary action. He was previously suspended for two Twenty20 internationals for a similar offense during a match against Afghanistan in February. The recent suspension saw him miss out on the three-match T20 series against Bangladesh, which Sri Lanka won 2-1, with Hasaranga playing a pivotal role in the final match as the team's leader.

In addition to Hasaranga's suspension, Sri Lanka ODI skipper Kusal Mendis also faced repercussions, receiving a 50 percent fine for abusing the umpires during the third match against Bangladesh.

Despite the disciplinary issues, Sri Lanka included Hasaranga in their 17-man squad for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. The first Test is scheduled to begin on March 22 in Sylhet, with the second Test set to take place in Chittagong from March 30 onwards.
