Pakistan’s legendary former pacer Wasim Akram will be the mentor of the Galle Gladiators franchise in the Lanka Premier League (LPL).

Legendary former wicketkeeper-batsman Moin Khan will act as the coach while wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed will serve as the captain for the franchise. Azam Khan, who is also the Quetta Gladiators’ manager, will serve in the same role for the side.

The Galle Gladiators franchise is owned by Nadeem Umar who also owns the Quetta Gladiators franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The players draft for the tournament is expected to be held on Monday.

Five teams — named after the Sri Lankan cities of Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Dambulla and Jaffna — are due to take part in the tournament.

SLC has said that 30 foreigners, including Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy, Darren Bravo, Shahid Afridi and Shakib Al Hasan, would be available for the LPL.

International cricket came to a halt in Sri Lanka on March 13. The visiting England team pulled out on the second day of a practice match ahead of their two-Test series as the coronavirus pandemic spread.
