Australian all-rounder Ashton Agar stunned everyone with a superb athletic effort on the field in the first ODI against England at the Adelaide Oval.

The effort from Agar came in the field on the final ball of the 45th over. Australian skipper Pat Cummins was bowling to the well-set Dawid Malan, who was batting on 131.

Cummins bowled a short delivery which Malan dispatched with a powerful pull stroke over deep midwicket, and it looked like a certain six.

But Agar, who was fielding on the ropes, had other ideas, as he leapt in the air at full stretch and flicked the ball back into the ground with his left hand to restrict the damage to one run.

The effort from Agar drew applause from the crowd as well as his teammates.

In the first match of the three-match ODI series, Australia won the toss and elected to field first. It was a fine effort from the Australian bowlers, as they ran through the England top-order, reducing them to 118/5. But Dawid Malan mounted a brilliant fightback, with support from the lower order, to help the visitors to a competitive score.

Malan scored a brilliant 134 off only 128 deliveries, as England posted a score of 287/9 in their 50 overs at the Adelaide Oval. He was given a helping hand by David Willey, who ended on an unbeaten 34.
