‘We never got paid’ claims PJL team captain

Gwadar Sharks captain Shamyl Hussain said that players from the Pakistan Junior League did not receive any payment from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) yet. 

In a conversation regarding PJL's expenses on Sunday, the 18-year-old tweeted, “We never got paid.”

The local players did not receive any payment from the cricketing body despite the project costing PCB PKR 1 billion, of which 440 million were listed as match fees for players and support staff.

Earlier in a meeting at the National High-Performance Centre on Saturday, the PCB Management Committee agreed to discontinue the league.  

The inaugural season of PJL was held in October last year and was a dream project of former PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja. 

“It is so sad that PJL has fallen to vendetta politics and rolled back even though 7 of the kids made it to PSL 8 emerging category and 3 are part of Pak vs NZ as reserves,” Raja tweeted as a reaction to the news. 

The PCB Management Committee, however, decided to revive the junior series on a home and away basis to ensure there is a pathway for the high-performing teenagers. They also agreed to ask PSL franchises to include an Under-19 player under their Emerging Category in the playing line-ups.
