West Indies delivered a dominant performance, defeating Uganda by a massive margin of 134 runs during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
Chasing a target of 174 runs, Uganda were bowled out for just 39 runs in 12 overs, matching the joint-lowest team total in men's T20 World Cup history. This record was previously set by the Netherlands against Sri Lanka in Chattogram in 2014.
Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein starred with the ball, taking five wickets for only 11 runs in his four-over spell, earning the Player of the Match award.
Hosein became the first West Indies bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a men's T20 World Cup innings. Alzarri Joseph also contributed with two wickets for six runs in three overs.
Uganda's tailender Juma Miyagi was the only player to reach double figures, scoring an unbeaten 13 runs in 20 balls.
Earlier, West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first, posting a total of 173-5 in their allotted 20 overs. Johnson Charles top-scored with 44 runs off 42 balls, including four fours and two sixes. Andre Russell added a quick 30 runs from 17 balls, featuring six fours. Uganda captain Brian Masaba was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2-31 in four overs.
West Indies, who started their campaign with a win against Papua New Guinea (PNG), have now secured their second victory. Uganda, after losing by 125 runs to Afghanistan, achieved their first-ever T20 World Cup win in a spirited performance against PNG but were unable to replicate that success against the Windies.
