Brandon King's participation in the remainder of the T20 World Cup is uncertain after he suffered a side strain during West Indies' match against England in St Lucia on Wednesday night.

King made a brisk 23 runs off 12 balls, including a massive six off Reece Topley, before being injured on his 13th delivery.

Attempting a shot against Sam Curran, King abruptly halted and retired hurt after receiving medical attention. He did not field during England's innings, with Shimron Hetmyer taking his place.

Cricket West Indies confirmed King's injury as a side strain and ruled him out from returning to play in the England match.

Side strains typically require several weeks to fully heal, casting doubt on King's availability for the remainder of the World Cup, which has just 10 days left.

In preparation for their next Super Eight fixture against USA at Kensington Oval on Friday, West Indies are considering replacements from their standby list: Andre Fletcher, Kyle Mayers, Fabian Allen, Hayden Walsh Jr., and Matthew Forde.

Mayers, who narrowly missed the initial squad, appears a likely candidate to fill King's role, although Fletcher also offers a strong option at the top of the batting order.
