Zakir Khan retired from the Pakistan Cricket Board in April at the age of 60. At that time, he was the Director of International Cricket. He immediately was called back on short contracts. Whenever a new board chairman came, due to Zakir's closeness to a former captain, they allowed him to continue working. 

A few months ago, he was given a contract as a consultant for special projects. This is a department where no work is done, and instead of laying off officials, they are transferred there. 

Zakir Khan was appointed as the head of the National Cricket Academy a few months ago, but the authorities were not satisfied with his work due to his advancing age. 

Sources revealed that he exchanged bitter words with top officials in recent days. Board took the action and the decision to immediately remove Zakir Khan was made. Sources further revealed that his contract was until November, but a message was sent to him stating that the board is not satisfied with his work, so there is no need to come to the office anymore.

Director of domestic cricket, Nadeem Khan has been given the the additional charge of academy in place of Zakir Khan. In this regard, the PCB spokesman confirmed the termination of Zakir Khan's contract and the appointment of Nadeem Khan for the academy. However, he avoided further comments on the matter. 

Sources revealed that some positions have recently been switched in the National Cricket Academy as well.
