Hayden will be crucial to Pakistan's chances against Australia: Sehwag

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has claimed that Pakistan are in the perfect position to beat Australia as the Men in Green will face off against them in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2021.

Pakistan, which remains the only unbeaten side in the current edition of the T20 World Cup, are joined by Australia, England, and New Zealand in the final four teams.

While speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag said that if Pakistan continues to perform the way they have performed thus far, they can ease past Australia.

"Pakistan will definitely be taking the momentum (of Super 12s) into the semifinals. They have basically checked all the boxes, be it their opening, their middle order, or their bowling department. Australia have always proved to be a difficult opponent but if Pakistan continues to play the way they have then they will win," said Sehwag.

Speaking about the importance of having a former Australian legend as a coach, Sehwag said that Pakistan will definitely benefit from it.

"There is a definite help when an overseas coach joins the team and they bring certain insights which can prove invaluable. Matthew Hayden was always an aggressive and positive player and we can see that mentality being instilled in the Pakistani batsmen," added Sehwag.

Sehwag said that when India faced South Africa, they had Gary Kirsten as their coach and his input proved invaluable on the field and the same thing will happen with Hayden and Pakistan.

"Hayden was a huge part of Cricket Australia and he can definitely share insights when it comes to possible weaknesses within the Australian side which Pakistan can exploit. It is similar to when Gary Kirsten joined the Indian management, he also shared his experience in regards to South Africa when we faced them and it was all proven right on the field," he concluded.
