The tri-nation T20I series between Zimbabwe, Australia and Pakistan is most likely to go ahead after fresh discussions between Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) and the players’ representative.

The tournament is scheduled to be played from July 1 to July 8 at the Harare Sports Complex, which will host all seven matches.

There were serious concerns whether the tournament would go ahead after reports emerged that Zimbabwe players were looking to boycott the event due to non-payment of their salaries for the past few months.

However, according to ESPNCricinfo, Zimbabwe players are likely to call off their proposed protest after discussions with the cricket board’s newly-appointed consultant Vince van der Bijl and players' representative Gerald Mlotchwa.

The report stated that it was understood between both the parties that ZC will settle the dues once they will receive the International Cricket Council (ICC) grant in July.

Zimbabwe's players are owed two months' worth of salaries and match fees from their tour of Sri Lanka, which took place in July last year.

A source inside the Zimbabwe board confirmed that even though the players are not happy about the non-payment of their dues, they believe that the tri-series is important for the future of the sport in the country.

"The players have realised that they are probably not going to get any pay before July and are frustrated that ZC have not communicated with them,” he said. “They still feel the non-pay is ridiculous and they want to see a payment plan in writing from ZC. But at the same time, they have come to the realisation that if these matches don't happen, ZC could be finished; especially if you look at the fixtures they have coming up."
