Pakistan’s veteran all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez, who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) during phase one of the medical tests conducted for the tour of England, has tested negative after opting for a second opinion on Wednesday.
The 39-year-old, in a tweet, shared a snapshot of the test results while confirming that he and his family had tested negative upon approaching an external source.
“After tested positive Covid-19 according to PCB testing report yesterday, as the second opinion and for satisfaction, I personally went to test it again along with my family and here I along with my all family members are reported negative. Alhamdulillah, may Allah keep us all safe,” Hafeez tweeted.

Hafeez’s tweet and negative test results might create further questions for the testing procedures employed by the PCB. It might also push the other six players to pursue external sources for a test to confirm the findings of the earlier tests.
It should be noted that false negatives, a scenario where tests deliver wrong results, might also be a possibility. Following the announcement on Monday that three players had tested positive for Covid-19, the Pakistan Cricket Board on Tuesday confirmed that a further seven players and a player support personnel from a total of 35 have tested positive for Covid-19. The PCB had organised these 35 tests in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar on Monday.
