Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has called for the current national team captain, Babar Azam, to step down from his position.

The former player believes that Babar's captaincy responsibilities are affecting his performance with the bat and that he would be able to break records and surpass the achievements of greats in the game if he focused solely on his batting.

The former player suggested that fast bowler Shaheen Afridi should take over as Pakistan's ODI and Test cricket captain as long as he remains fit. Another option for T20I cricket captaincy is Shadab Khan.

"Babar Azam should quit captaincy. If he leaves captaincy, he will break all records and surpass records made by greats in the game. His captaincy is affecting his performance with the bat, and he should focus on his batting," said Basit Ali.

"Shaheen Afridi should be Pakistan's captain. Shaheen can lead Pakistan in ODI and Test cricket if he remains fit. Shadab Khan could be Pakistan's choice as captain in T20I cricket," he maintained.

The statement has sparked debate among cricket fans and experts, with some agreeing that Babar's captaincy may impact his performance. In contrast, others argue that he is still young and has the potential to improve as a leader.
