Islamabad United’s Hassan Cheema to be part of Pakistan’s selection committee

The Pakistan Cricket Board today confirmed three appointments to the national men's selection committee, which will select senior, Shaheens and U19 sides.

In a significant development for Pakistan cricket, Hassan Cheema, the strategy manager of Islamabad United, has been added to the national team's selection committee.

As reported by Cricket Pakistan in April, United's duo, Rehan ul Haq and Hassan Cheema, will now be part of Pakistan's team management. Rehan is the current team manager of the Men in Green.

The new selection committee comprises Haroon Rashid (chair), Hassan Cheema (selection committee secretary and manager analytics and team strategy for national men's side), Mickey Arthur (national men's team's director), and Grant Bradburn (national men's team's head coach).

Arthur and Bradburn will aid in strategising for the approaching and upcoming series, enhance the bench strength and provide a proper pathway to performing players in Shaheens and U19 sides to graduate to the national side.

While talking about Hassan Cheema, Sethi, in a interview with BBC, said, "His inclusion will ensure that data is relied upon during the selection process, and Hassan is an expert in this field."

The addition of Cheema to the selection committee brings a fresh perspective and strategic insight to the decision-making process. As the strategy manager of Islamabad United, one of the most successful franchises in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Cheema has gained valuable experience in talent identification and player assessment. His analytical approach and understanding of the modern game could prove to be beneficial in identifying and nurturing young talent for the national team.

The first task of the selection committee is to name the players for the fast and spin bowling camps next month in Lahore.
