Pakistan’s head coach Misbahul Haq, in a virtual press conference on Tuesday, stated that he wanted the Men in Green to be among the top three sides of the world in each format of the sport.

The 46-year-old expressed hope that this goal would be achieved in the near future.

“We want to be in the top three in all formats of the game. We are headed towards improvement. I am hopeful that we will achieve our goals in the near future. Losing out on some important opportunities and dropped catches were the reasons why we couldn’t perform up to the expectations during the tour of New Zealand. We did however show glimpses of our fighting spirit,” Misbah said.

“In the home series against South Africa, the players faced tough conditions and came away victorious. Their hard work was visible. The coaches had been trying for a long time to set up a lower order that could add an important 70 or 80 runs to the total. Mohammad Rizwan and Faheem Ashraf were phenomenal in the series,” he added.

Misbah revealed that the openers that have been representing Pakistan recently will not be discarded despite their woeful performances while claiming that they would undergo training at the National High Performance Center to improve their overall game.

“We need to improve the performances of our openers but at the same time, the available players will not be discarded. Players such as Shan Masood have been performing for Pakistan in the past. We cannot just take them out of our plans in an instant. We will work towards improving the openers in the national high performance center. I don’t know what decision the board makes or what happens in the future. We can only work hard and keep trying to improve,” he said.
