A united front taken by the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises has stopped the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) from taking serious action against the teams despite the non-payment of fees for the sixth season.

The owners of the franchises have made it clear that no financial obligations will be fulfilled by the franchises until the new financial model is brought into implementation. The matter will be further discussed during the upcoming PSL 5 playoff matches.

The PSL franchises and the PCB have been at odds for a long time. The franchise owners had even approached the courts, because of constant losses, before deciding to solve the matter through meetings with the PCB.

The coronavirus epidemic has affected franchises financially as well however the PCB is still adamant in demanding the fees for the next season of PSL. A deadline of November 10 had been given in this regard.

According to some sources, the PCB had communicated to the franchises that in case of non-payment, the board could terminate an existing contract and start the bidding process. The franchises however remain unfazed by the threat.

According to sources, the PCB could have sent notices to three or four teams but the same action cannot be taken against all franchises simultaneously. This could lead to another court battle which would severely impact the brand value of the PSL.

PCB’s Director Media Samiul Hasan Burny verified that November 10 had been designated as the deadline and that no franchises had submitted the fees yet. He, however, could not comment further on the matter as negotiations are currently underway.
