Imad, who last represented Pakistan in May 2023, announced his retirement from international cricket in November last year
Pakistan all-rounder and Islamabad United's captain Shadab Khan emphasized the importance of having Imad Wasim back in the national team, highlighting his valuable contributions to the squad.
Speaking in a post-match presser, Shadab revealed that he had personally urged Imad not to retire from international cricket. Shadab also expressed optimism about the possibility of Imad reconsidering his decision especially with the T20 World Cup looming on the horizon.
"I want to, in fact, when Imad made the decision, I had also talked to him that I didn't want him to leave. Because Pakistan needs players like him. God willing, if there is a discussion with him, hopefully he will come back because the World Cup is approaching and the way he is performing and his experience in CPL, Pakistan definitely needs him," Shadab said.
Imad, who last represented Pakistan in May 2023, announced his retirement from international cricket in November last year. However, his exceptional performance in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9 has reignited discussions about his potential return to the national setup.
It is worth noting that Imad's pivotal role in United's recent victory in the PSL 9 eliminator against Peshawar Zalmi further showcased his prowess on the field. Partnering with Haider Ali, Imad orchestrated a record-breaking seventh-wicket partnership that propelled Islamabad United to the tournament final. His unbeaten knock of 59 runs off 40 balls, studded with nine boundaries, underscored his skill and determination.
