West Indies great Vivian Richards has been taken to the hospital after he fell ill during the pre-match show of the second Test match between India and West Indies in Jamaica.

According to the Press Trust of India, Richards felt discomfort while on the air and informed the official broadcasters about it. A stretcher was brought on the field to carry him, however, the 67-year-old left with the assistance from two volunteers.

Initial reports suggest that the former legend was only taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure as he was dehydrated due to the hot and humid weather.

ICC incurs wrath of Indian fans

The official broadcaster’s producer has confirmed that Richards suffered from a heat stroke.

"Viv Richards had recovered and all vitals are stable," the producer on site said after hearing from the Windies Cricket Board's (WICB's) medical doctor.
