Will PCB review central contracts of Pakistan players after poor show in T20 World Cup?

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is re-evaluating the central contracts of their players following their poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2024, where losses to the USA and India led to their early elimination.

According to a media report, several officials and former players have suggested to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi that he should reexamine the central contracts established during Zaka Ashraf’s leadership.

“There is a possibility that the central contracts could be reassessed, and players might face salary and fee reductions if the Chairman chooses to take strong action in response to the team’s recent poor performances,” the report quoted a PCB source as saying.

The Pakistan team, led by Babar Azam, also underperformed in both the Asia Cup and the 50-over World Cup last year.

“Although no final decision has been made, this stringent measure has been a topic of discussion within the board and with the Chairman,” the source added.

It’s important to note that the players signed a three-year contract on July 1 of the previous year, during Zaka Ashraf's tenure, which included increased salaries and a fixed share of the PCB's revenue from the ICC.

The report added that Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, along with senior PCB officials, deliberated over potential changes to the central contracts last night. The board will now decide whether to maintain the current remuneration packages for the players.
