Umar Akmal lands in hot waters once again

Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal is the centre of controversy once again after another irresponsible act at a Ramazan cricket tournament, in Karachi.

During Omar Associates Ramazan Cricket Festival at Karachi Gymkhana, Akmal left the match in between play after claiming that he was injured.

Akmal–who has featured in 16 Tests, 116 ODIs and 82 T20Is for Pakistan—was representing Omar Associates in the final of the tournament against Qasmi Cricket Club.

After a few overs were bowled in the second innings, Umar Akmal told Test umpire Riazuddin that he was going off the field for medical treatment. Umpire allowed him to leave the field for only a couple of overs—according to the rules and regulations—but the cricketer never returned.

Upon his absence for more than two overs, the Umpires dismissed Omar Associates reasoning that Akmal was injured and could not feature in remaining part of the match. Consequently meaning that the club had to field for the remaining overs with just ten men on the field, although they were fortunate enough to win the match and title.

It was later reported that Umar Akmal flew to Lahore via a flight from Karachi Airport, which is against the rules of a tournament sanctioned by the Pakistan Cricket Board. The PCB is now likely to take disciplinary action against the cricketer.
