Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee Najam Sethi said that he will not stop Mohammad Amir if the former cricketer wanted to return to international cricket.

During his press conference today, Najam Sethi gives a green signal to Mohammad Amir on his potential return to the Pakistan cricket team.

"Mohammad Amir can play international cricket for Pakistan if he takes his retirement back," said Najam Sethi.

"I always took a strong stance against match-fixing. I believe no convicted player should be spared, but at the same time, a player should be allowed to resume international cricket once he has completed his years of penalty," he maintained.

On a question regarding Pakistan's opening batter Sharjeel Khan, Najam Sethi clearly stated," it was mutual consent in Sharjeel Khan's case. If Shahid Afridi was powerful enough as chief selector, he could have resisted my decision," said Sethi.

The news of the fast bowler’s return has resurfaced after the ousting of previous PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja. "Mohammad Amir thinks he is not dealt fairly by the previous regime of PCB, including selection committee and chairman Ramiz Raja," Sethi said.

Previously, the 74-year-old said Amir had only made himself unavailable for selection due to differences with the previous PCB administration.

"Ramiz Raja thinks whoever has committed corruption in cricket should never be allowed to play for Pakistan again. This is not my view! I believe someone who has paid the penalty should be allowed to make a comeback for Pakistan," he said.
